The Houston Medical Center and the Houston Energy Sector are each world centers of achievement and innovation. Both have achieved international leadership; both seek ideas and expertise worldwide. Sometimes, however, the best ideas are found close to home, as in an over-the-fence back yard chat. This seminar is conceived as a friendly gathering of the curious - an exploration of what seem to be some remarkably similar areas of interest. One need only consider the terminology—drilling, circulation, stimulation, imaging, plugs, patches and pumps, to suspect that maybe there are some really good ideas to exchange.
The goal of the ‘Pumps and Pipes' program is to expose medical researchers and oil and gas engineers to respective state-of-the-art technologies ("The Other Guy's Toolbox") and to explore, and ultimately develop, leapfrog technologies between cardiovascular medicine and energy (‘Better Together').
