Mark G. Davies, M.D., PH.D.

Dr. Mark G. Davies is Professor of vascular surgery in the Department of Cardiovascular Surgery at The Methodist DeBakey Heart and Vascular Center. He has previously served as an Assistant and Associate Professor of Surgery at the University of Rochester, NY. Dr Davies is a graduate of Trinity College, Dublin and completed his surgical registrar training through The Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland Dublin Region Surgical Training Scheme and obtained both the FRCS (Ire) and FRCS (Eng). During this period of training, he obtained a Master in Science in Pharmacology. After his Irish training, Dr Davies came to Duke University Medical Center, NC as a Research Fellow on a Fogarty and Health Research Board of Ireland Scholarships. During his 3 years, he obtained two higher degrees by thesis from Trinity College an MD and a PhD. He was recruited by Dr. David Sabiston into the Duke University Surgical Residency and finished in 1997. Thereafter, he joined Dr. Alexander Clowes at the University of Washington and completed a Vascular Surgery Fellowship. Most recently Dr Davies completed his MBA from the Simon School of Business at the University of Rochester. Dr. Davies is the Co-Director of the Pumps & Pipes Program.

Dr Davies’ clinical expertise includes:

  • Aortic Endovascular Surgery
  • Arterial & Venous Endovascular Surgery
  • Carotid Artery Stenting
  • Acute Venous Disease

He has been a successful recipient of multiple NIH grants. Dr Davies has been very productive in both the basic science and clinic research arena through out his career and has published over 250 peer-reviewed articles on endovascular therapy and vascular biology. His research is featured frequently at the national and regional vascular and vascular biology meetings. He has served on numerous society committees and editorial boards and is a reviewer for all the relevant Cardiovascular Journals.
